Love is a Decision

Some people think that love just happens. That it’s something you have no control over. That one day, you wake up and realize that you’re in love. That you can just fall into it accidentally like it’s some sort of manhole.

But that’s not how love works. Love is a decision and it requires commitment.

It can start off as attraction -- to the physical being, the intellect, or to one’s character. But this is not love. At least not yet. This is still too shallow.

Love accepts everything about the other person -- the good, the bad, the ugly. That’s why commitment is a requisite. Because you cannot just run away once you find something not desirable about the other person. Love loves despite of and in spite of and never because of.

Love is a choice. It’s something that you need to consciously make. Every. Single. Day.

That’s when you can say it is love.

Oh, and love is not just every Valentine’s Day.
