The DOCTOR is in!

We got the news today that my dear sizzie Dyann just passed the medical licensing exams. The whole family is so proud of what she has achieved but not many know what she's been through just to be where she's at right now. At 24 years old, it is a big deal that she's already achieved so much. You see, the family went through crisis during the most crucial times of her med life. Financial crisis to be exact. Let me start from her high school story...

She transferred to Manila Science High School from Colegio San Agustin. Total culture change. Moving from the posh neighborhood of Dasma, Makati to the chaotic world of Taft Avenue was the first step. And the training in MaSci was different from what she was used to from grade school that we had to rent an apartment near the school to relieve her from the stress of traveling to and from school. Class hours were from 6:30am to 6:00pm and she's swamped with homework every single day.

We let go of the apartment on her second year and she was forced to stay in a dormitory where she was with college students and working girls. It was a different environment from what she was used to, she was far from us, her family and she was forced to be independent. Although she goes home on weekends, we visit her within the week as much as we can. Things weren't easy for her at all. The only consolation was that tuition was free and she got a very good foundation for college. She got into De La Salle University as a scholar. All her hard work paid off.

The worst part came when she was already in med school. The family invested in our business but things didn't go as planned and we found ourselves very low in cash. We sold all our cars and lived the simple life. Her scholarship only lasted for a year in med school because of the university's cost cutting schemes. Mom gave her the news that she can't proceed with med school anymore. She refused to believe this and stayed in school. Without paying the tuition fee she wasn't allowed to participate in laboratory work but she stayed non the less. She refused to miss any lesson and continued to believe that God placed her there and God will provide. She attended all her classes and did all the work required even without grades. She just refused to quit. Mom couldn't give her enough allowance that she turned to selling sandwiches to her classmates. Yanwich was a huge success that the money she got from it was sufficient enough for her daily living. One doctor saw her perseverance that she offered to sponsor Dyann for the semester. God truly delivered.

A few more semesters, a couple more sponsors and a lot of Yanwiches after, Dyann made it to graduation and eventually to her medical board exams and the rest is history. I can go on and on with her struggles but these are the major points. I guess what I want to highlight is that God indeed kept His promise. He gave Dyann the desire to be a doctor, the means on how she can be a doctor and now she is a certified doctor. To God be all the glory!

I'm really proud of you sizzie!
