"We are the people who made sure that everything happens according to plan" (Richardson to David, The Adjustment Bureau)
God has a perfect plan for each and everyone of us. Even before we were born, He already has a blueprint of how to construct our lives.
We are all destined to be blessed but only if we follow the right path.
For I know the plans I have for you.. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV).
We are all destined to be blessed but only if we follow the right path.
At the same time, God has given us the freewill to decide whether or not we will go with our design. He gave us the option to either do what we are set to do, or to go plot our own destiny. But why would we want to deviate from God's plan when we know that it's already perfect? I honestly don't know. Maybe it's because of Satan's deceitful ways that make us think that we can be happy without God. Maybe it's our longing to feel that we can be successful on our own. Maybe, just maybe, we would like to be able to boast that we are who we are even without God. But the truth is, anything that is not according to God's plan will result in chaos.
But each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death (James 1:14-15,NIV).
David insisted that he wanted to be with Elise. He convinced himself that he is a better man with her and no matter what the Bureau tells him, he was determined to follow his own heart. Sure, he tried to let go but at the end of it all, he still pursued what he believed was right for him.
And David got into so much trouble. He got beaten up, a cab driver got hurt, even Elise got a sprain from David's stubbornness. Moving away from God's plan will hurt us, bring discord to our lives, or it can even kill us.
Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins (James 4:17, NIV).

The difference though between the movie and real life is that God will never give in like the Bureau's Chairman did. God will do everything for you to abide by his plans, conspire the universe to open up opportunities for you to realize His one desire for you and use other people to guide you to the right direction. But if you let your heart be hardened by sin, God will allow this too. But the consequence will be beyond the worst suffering you can imagine…
Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life (Matthew 25:46, NIV).
