You won't have to lift a hand in this battle; just stand firm and watch God's saving work for you take shape. Don't be afraid, don't waver. March out boldly tomorrow—God is with you. (2 Chronicles 20:7, The Message)
Everyone messes up. We all start as cute little kids who's got dreams of becoming princesses and doctors and presidents of the world but somewhere along the way someone -- no, a loved one hurts us, turns us towards another direction and we're never the same. They change the way we see life, they tweak our values and they modify our characters altogether.
This change happens when we're 2 or 8, during puberty, when we're teenagers, or even when we're 27 and we think we've already got everything going for us. This dad or mom, boyfriend or girlfriend, boss or bully... they change us all the same way: we turn sour and ruin something in return. We ruin our own lives.
But God, in all His majesty and business running the universe, whispers down from heaven into our ears and calls us to calm down and start over with Him. There's always a chance to start over. But not everyone listens. At least not at once. Not me.
I was determined to prove that my life is already ruined and I've got that loved one to blame for. I can do whatever I want and say it's not my responsibility. I am this way because of him. And he messed things up for me.
God, where were you when I was being beaten up? Why did you not save me then? Were you not listening when I was crying? Did you not hear when I prayed? And now that I have found my happiness, all on my own, you want me to just leave everything and come follow You? Are You insane?
And like I said, He runs the universe. And everything had to happen. I needed to go through all that pain, so that when I decide that it's finally time to submit to Him, His majesty will shine over my life and He will be glorified for all the good things that are happening right at this moment, He orchestrated. And this time, it's God who's turning me to yet another direction and I, again, am never the same.
Everyone messes up. We all start as cute little kids who's got dreams of becoming princesses and doctors and presidents of the world but God always, always has a better plan. And this plan, always, always prevails when we obey. He changes the way we see life, changes our values and He modifies our character altogether.
