Lessons from a Gas Boy

After gassing up at Caltex today on our way to small group fellowship, the gas boy (I regret now not getting his name) gave me a big smile and said, "Enjoy your journey, ma'am!" It was an unexpected remark, far from the usual "thank you for coming" and "have a good day". I wasn't sure if he meant enjoy my 10 minute journey to Raya Gardens or if he actually meant for me to enjoy my journey through life in general.

In this day and age where everyone is busy with something all the time, how often do we actually get to enjoy our journey? It's not even about taking a break or going on vacation, it's more on really appreciating the lessons life has thrown us from every hurt, every tear, every joy that we have felt throughout the years. It's about looking back and realizing that we are different people today than yesterday simply because that's the course life wanted us to take. It's recognizing the value of what God has done in our lives that we are now who we are: better in character, stronger in faith, richer in values and surrounded by friends appointed by God to walk with in this journey.

Life is but a journey. And we need to decide whether we want to drive it directly to destruction or we actually sit back and let Jesus take the steering wheel. This road trip requires gassing up on Word, hitting the breaks on temptation, oiling up in prayer and worship, changing to higher gears of faith, adjusting the mirrors of humility and turning on your hazard lights so others can lend help when needed. And of course, enjoying the ride through thunderstorms, rain and sunshine. Life is but a journey.

And to you, Kuya Gas Boy, I hope that you too, enjoy your journey.
